Extensive Reading
Extensive Reading gives the students complete freedom to choose any kinds of topic they like, as well as type of text. The purpose of this type of reading is for seeking pleasure and building up information and knowledge. There are no required reading tasks and perhaps just a few after reading. Reading might be quicker as the reader focuses on general meaning not on understanding every single word. The teacher's role is as a model, giving a reasonable clarification about the objectives and techniques of Extensive Reading to ensure students are on the right path (Alla, 2010).
In the following video, Richard Day explains exactly what extensive reading is, and what it means for language learners.
